It’s Super Bowl Weekend and according to the American Gaming Association, 68 million people are expected to place a bet on the big game. Louisiana Gaming Control Board Chairman Ronnie Johns said AGA is predicting more than $23 billion will be legally wagered in the US.
“That’s up from $16 billion that was bet last year, but we’ve had some new states come on board. We now have 38 states, plus the District of Columbia, that have legalized betting. So, it’s going to be a huge weekend,” said Johns.
As for the Pelican State, Johns said it’s hard to predict how much will be wagered on Super Bowl 58, but he said since sports betting went live at casinos it’s grown every month and boomed even more with mobile wagering.
“It depends on how well people bet or how bad they bet, this weekend to see what the actual tax dollars that it will generate. It’s hard to give a dollar estimate right now but we’ll see those numbers in about a month,” said Johns.
And Johns reminds you while it’s fun to place a bet, do so within your means…
“If you’re going to bet, bet legally through one of the approved sites but bet responsibly, that’s our message,” said Johns.
