AAA is advising drivers in South Louisiana to prepare their vehicles, plan their trips, and exercise caution when driving in winter weather. AAA of Louisiana Spokesperson Don Redman says unless it’s an emergency…stay off the road.

Cut 4 “We don’t have the experience for it. We don’t have the tires for it.  So, if they are calling for ice or snow, stay home.”

Redman says to prepare your vehicle there are a few suggestions.  First, check the battery

Cut 5 (14) “If it’s at least three years or older you may want to have it tested to see if it’s still in good condition.  Because these freezing temperatures will absolutely stress your battery, and if you’re already on a weak battery then you might wake up in the morning with a cold battery.”

Redman says AAA also offers 24/7 roadside assistance and towing services to help drivers facing winter emergencies but suggests drivers keep a few items in their car.

Cut 6 (09) “We recommend a small shovel.  One of those collapsable shovels you can get.  As well as a bag of kitty litter.  That will help you get traction if you slide off the road.”
