AAA expects nearly 71-million people will travel over the Fourth of July weekend, a five percent increase over last year and an eight-percent increase from 2019. AAA spokesperson Nick Chabberia expects 60-million will drive to their destination and 5.7 million people will fly.
AAA booking data shows domestic airfare is 2% cheaper this Independence Day week compared to last year and the average price for a domestic roundtrip ticket is $800.
If you are planning on doing some driving this Fourth of July weekend, the statewide average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is $3.05.
“The state currently has the second cheapest statewide average gas price throughout the country,” Chabberia said.
Gas prices are about the same as they were last year.
AAA recommends using traffic apps and checking local Department of Transportation notifications. The best travel times are projected to be before noon on July 3 and July 4 to avoid peak congestion.
