An arrest has been made in the case where the torso of 19-year-old Sheryl Turner of New Iberia was found floating the Ouachita River, on January 24th. Catahoula Parish Sheriff’s Office Detective Dewain Littleton said 29-year-old Anthony Holland, Junior of West Monroe confessed that he dismembered and disposed of her body.

“We’re hoping that he opens up some more and gives us a better look into what led up to it and what made this happen or if anything provoked it or what. But right now, he’s not telling us why. He’s told us how and that he did but not why,” said Littleton.

Multiple law enforcement agencies collaborated in the investigation including the FBI. Littleton said Holland was unemployed but had been a cross-country truck driver, and there could possibly be more arrests.

“Just the extent of the knowledge that it took to dismember this body, it’s not something that somebody just overnight knew how to do,” said Littleton.

Holland has no previous criminal record and Littleton said that due to the nature of the crime, agencies are investigating to see if others could be linked to the suspect.

“It was pretty gruesome and methodical. I don’t know how to explain it without you just seeing it. But it’s nothing like we’ve ever encountered or seen in this area for sure,” said Littleton.

Investigators say Holland met Turner on social media and the two planned to live together in West Monroe.
