It’s a huge festival weekend in Louisiana with Festival International and Jazz Fest. Both attract visitors from all over the world and Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser said it’s not only Lafayette and New Orleans that see a boost in tourists.
“I know several people last year from Jazz Fest went up and spent a few days in Natchitoches. We see these travelers now coming and wanting to do more than just one event or one weekend and they stay longer and spend more money all over Louisiana,” said Nungesser.
Nungesser said Jazz Fest has a $300 million impact on New Orleans, which is more than the Super Bowl, and Festival International has a $19 million impact on Lafayette. He said state parks and hotels are booked with visitors for both events.
“Within an hour or two drive, surely has been an economic benefit for areas even outside of New Orleans and Lafayette. People are eating and spending money in those communities, so it has a big reach, a big footprint,” said Nungesser.
And while the two festivals are huge tourist draws for the state, Nungesser said it’s the locals’ southern hospitality that’s responsible for return visits.
“So, the local people that attend these fairs and festivals, add that special flavor that makes Louisiana all it is. So, thanks to the locals for welcoming our tourists. They leave with a friend for life and keep coming back for more,” said Nungesser.
