Four dead and more injured after July 4th mass shooting in Shreveport

Four people are dead and seven people are injured following a July 4th mass shooting at a block party in Shreveport. Shreveport Police Spokesperson Corporal Angie Wilhite says around 11:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to Pearl Avenue and Jones Mabry Road.

“We initially responded to reports of shots fired and very quickly began receiving reports that people were shot. Officers arrived and started making their way through the crowds along with the Shreveport Fire Department,” said Wilhite.

It was difficult for first responders to get to the victims due to the amount of vehicles at the scene. Police Chief Wayne Smith says the shooting was done by multiple people.

“It is so sad so tragic that this year’s event had to be interrupted with violence. It’s believed that multiple males engaged in an exchange of gunfire,” said Smith.

Wilhite says this event is held every year and unfortunately, individuals without any regard for the safety of others begin firing. She urges anyone with information to come forward.

“Please people with information we need the information. There were too many people there not to have seen something, so we need that information so we can bring those responsible to justice,” said Wilhite.

Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers at (318) 673-7373.
