Grambling President Rick Gallot appointed as new president of the UL System

Grambling State President Rick Gallot will replace Doctor Jim Henderson as the President of the University of Louisiana System. Henderson is leaving his post at the U-L System to be the next president at La Tech and Gallot says he’s honored to have the opportunity to replace Henderson.

“Appreciate the competence the board has shown by appointing me this role,” said Gallot.

The U-L System is the largest higher education system in Louisiana with 91-thousand students at nine different universities, Grambling, La Tech, McNeese, Nicholls, Northwestern, Southeastern, UL Lafayette, ULM, and UNO. Gallot says he looks forward to meeting with the presidents of these schools.

“I think the first thing we’ll have to do is to individually work with our campus presidents to find out how we can further support and assist from the system office,” said Gallot.

Gallot has served as Grambling’s president since 2016. Before that, he was a state lawmaker for 17 years. The Ruston native believes his experience as a state lawmaker will benefit him as he advocates for resources.

“Not being a stranger to the capitol and to the process and to some of my former colleagues who are still serving there, I think it’s certainly a plus,” said Gallot.

Gallot will begin his new role January 1st. Information about the search to replace Gallot at Grambling will be announced at a later date.
