Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo celebrates its 100th birthday

The Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo in Monroe celebrates its 100th year birthday this June and City of Monroe spokesperson Emily Stogner…

“All of this excitement building around the new season of the zoon really investing in something that hasn’t really been invested in in our community in a very long time.  And we thought what a perfect time to rebrand it to give it a fresh new look.”

Part of the rebranding was reaching out to the community with surveys and getting an idea of what the visitors of the zoo means to them.

“The memories, the adventure the education of going to the zoo with your family. We have so many people come out and celebrate.  We sang happy birthday to the zoon, and we had cake.  Were really excited to roll this out celebrating 100 years.”

The newest addition is the Louisiana Purchase exhibit where visitors can feed animals and get a sense of what it was like during the time of the Louisiana Purchase.

“We have some other stuff coming down the pipeline as well, but we are just excited to add to the zoo to make it a fresh new look and make it bigger and better than ever.”

The zoo is home to over 300 animals representing 150 species of animals from around the world.
