LSU recently unveiled plans for a new $107 million Construction & Advanced Manufacturing Building.  Dean of Engineering Vicki Colvin says the project, supported by a $15 million donation from Art Favre, a 1972 LSU graduate and founder of Performance Contractors, will enhance the university’s top-tier construction management program.

“Well, it’s incredibly exciting because modern engineering takes up a lot of space.  We need a new building that could house everything from 3D printers to print concrete for maybe someday structures on Mars.”

Colvin says the new building will be located on South Stadium Drive next to Tiger Stadium and will offer advanced lab and faculty spaces to support cutting-edge research and prepare students for Louisiana’s growing construction industry.

“The construction industry is rapidly becoming a high-technology industry, and we’re really generating the forefront technology for them.”

Colvin emphasized that this building will be a cornerstone of LSU’s vision to become a global leader in construction and advanced manufacturing, supporting the creation of innovative building practices and workforce development.

“We’re very optimistic.  We’re halfway there and we got a long way to go, but a lot of time to do it.”

Groundbreaking for the building is expected to start in 2026
