“And working to identify those responsible. As we’re still in the preliminary stages of this investigation I’m not able to go into additional details at this time,” said Kirkpatrick.
24-year-old Jezreel Poleate of Harvey has been identified as the woman killed outside of the music venue, Republic Nola. Police say the remaining shooting victims, seven women and five men are in stable condition or have been released from the hospital.
Council Member Lesli Harris, who represents the Warehouse District expressed condolences and was visibly stunned over the incident.
“To have seven women shot down and five men shot is unacceptable in our city, but I do want to reiterate that if you pull a trigger or commit a crime in Orleans Parish you will be caught,” said Harris.
Mayor LaToya Cantrell issued a warning to those responsible for the shooting.
“We’re going to ensure every step that we bring justice, and this is not tolerated in the City of New Orleans at all,” said Cantrell.
Kirkpatrick urged anyone with information about the shooting to contact Crimestoppers or NOPD. A $5,000 reward is being offered along with $1,000 for each gun involved.
