Iowa got the best of LSU this time. After losing to the Lady Tigers last year in the national championship game, the Hawkeyes defeated LSU 94-87 on Monday night. Caitlin Clark was sensational, scoring 41 points. LSU’s Angel Reese had 20 points and 17 rebounds. Reese says it was a great run, despite not getting back to the Final Four.
“So many things happened this year, so many things hit us, and we never folded,” said Reese. “Just being able to come out tonight and give our all for 40 minutes, we came up short, but we have to keep our heads up.”
Flau’jae Johnson was outstanding during the NCAA Tournament and had another great game against the Hawkeyes scoring 23 points and grabbing six rebounds.
During the postgame press conference, Johnson spoke out against those who showed hate towards Reese.
“Y’all don’t know Angel Reese, I know Angel Reese, I know the real Angel Reese, and the person I see every day is a strong, caring and loving person, the crown she wears on her head is heavy,” said Johnson.
Reese went into some detail on what life has been like since the Lady Tigers won the national championship.
“I’ve been attacked so many times, death threats, I’ve been sexualized, I’ve been threatened and I have stood strong every single time,” said Reese.
Hailey Van Lith called Reese one of the toughest persons she’s ever been around and the hate that comes in her direction is not going to knock her down.
“Y’all don’t get to Angel Reese so you might want to give it up and throw the towel in because you are just wasting your energy,” said Van Lith.
This was likely Reese’s last game at LSU. She leaves with her head held up high.
“I wouldn’t change anything and I would still sit here and say I’m unapologetically me, I’m always going to leave that mark and be who I am and stand on that,” said Reese.
