Good Morning America co-anchor Robin Roberts and Southeastern University alum marked the construction of the school’s new broadcast media center last week. Southeastern President William Wainwright says Roberts has done so much for the school in both academics and sports.

“I love that her journey was quite diverse with lots of twists and turns and it just goes to show that with the degree from the university and with the right network and opportunities you can accomplish much.”

The new media center includes a renovation of D Vickers Hall and will add an additional 33,000 square feet to the building. It will include three studios: a newsroom, a film studio, and a multimedia studio. Wainwright says the $40 million dollar project is being paid for through state Capital Outlay funds and a sizeable donation from Roberts.

“It allowed us to make the project whole and to get us to where we needed to be to begin construction. So significant contribution. We’re grateful for that.”

When she visits, Wainwright says Roberts also always takes time to inspire students and answer their questions.

“She spent time with our communications graduates. She spent time with our women’s basketball team. I just can not say enough about her willingness and desire to be with our students to just inspire and encourage everybody when she’s with us.”

Construction of the Robin Roberts Broadcast Media Center is expected to be completed early next year.
