Starting LSU WR questionable for USC game

Based on what we heard from Coach Brian Kelly and the players, preseason camp went as well as expected and the Tigers avoided major injuries.

But there is one offensive starter who could miss the season opener against USC in Las Vegas. On Monday, Coach Brian Kelly announced receiver Chris Hilton is suffering from a bone bruise which makes him questionable for Sunday’s season opener.

Hilton is one of LSU’s three starting receivers. Kyren Lacy and Liberty transfer CJ Daniels are the other two.

Kelly said if Hilton can’t play this weekend, redshirt freshman Kyle Parker would be the next guy up. Kelly said Parker has had a great camp. Just like Hilton, Parker possesses great speed.

Parker appeared in four games last season, saw action on 31 offensive plays and didn’t catch a pass.

Mississippi State transfer Zavion Thomas could also see additional playing time.

Hilton has been hobbled since injuring his leg in practice on August 17. When he met with reporters earlier in the month, Hilton said he was finally injury-free after suffering through three significant injuries during his first three years at LSU.

The former Zachary High star has 22 catches for 415 yards and three touchdowns during his LSU career. If Hilton can shake the injury bug, he seems poised for a breakout season this year.
