If you think you should have money coming to you, look into it.
The state treasury’s Unclaimed Property Program has just added a lot of money in uncashed state income tax refunds.
“We have just paid $8.7 million in uncashed state income tax refunds from the Louisiana Department of Revenue,” says Treasury Secretary Dr. John Fleming. “It totals to 29,441 separate checks.
“The refunds were issued previously; but for some reason, they weren’t cashed,” Dr. Fleming continued. “They were lost in the mail, somebody lost it, maybe they forgot. Sometimes people throw things away. They think it’s just an ad.”
If some of that money is yours, claiming it is easy.
“They’re going to have to come to our website — it’s lacashclaim.org,” says Fleming. “And upon doing so, all they have to do is put in a little bit of information that’s required, and it’ll tell them straight up how much money is owed to them.”

Fleming’s office has a lot of unclaimed money, and he says that money belongs to their rightful owners and not the state.
“We’re constantly getting money turned in to us from banks, from brokerage houses, from many different directions,” Fleming points out. “And we encourage people that you should seek it out, even if you don’t think there’s anything.”
