More and more people are using public libraries in the state. Last year, more than ten-million people visited public libraries – a double-digit percentage increase from 2022. State Librarian Meg Placke says library usage is almost at pre-pandemic levels.

“We continue year after year to see that people are using the library and definitely usage is up across the board.”

Placke says not only do libraries have volumes of books that can be checked out, but they have lots of programs for the entire family.

“Starting with all of the story time and lap sits, and then of course we have our wonderful summer reading programs.”

Placke says these days, you can use the public libraries without setting foot on any of them.

“So many e-books, e-book collections, audio collections that now there is so many things they can come into the library or they can use the library online.”
