A three-year-old nonverbal girl, Jacie Lee, was reported missing from her Port Allen home around 4 p.m. yesterday.  She had exited through the garage while her family was inside. WBR Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Landon Groger says an intense search ensued, and a first responder found her unresponsive in a neighbor’s swimming pool.

“Lifesaving measures were provided on scene.  She was ultimately transported to a nearby hospital, where she ultimately died as a result of what appeared to be an apparent drowning.”

The Sheriff’s Office considers the drowning an accident, and the incident remains under investigation.  Groger urges parents to be aware of where their children are a all times.

“This instance here, in just a split second, the mother went to the restroom, came back and noticed that her child had gone outside of her home and left out of the garage.”

The loss has deeply affected the family and community, including responding deputies. Groger reminds everyone to be safe and have a designated person watching children this Fourth of July weekend.

“Just in a matter of seconds can change everybody’s lives.  We just want you to be aware of that, and have a good Fourth of July, and at the end I would like to conclude to keep this family in your prayers.”
