Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has chosen Ohio Senator JD Vance as his running mate for the 2024 presidential election. Vance, once a critic of Trump, has become a strong supporter and advocate for his policies.
“J.D. is an excellent pick,” Louisiana State Treasurer John Fleming said. “There were actually, a number of excellent picks. He could have picked one of about five, six, maybe even 10 that would have been very very satisfactory.”
Vance gained fame in 2016 with the publication of his memoir “Hillbilly Elegy.” The former Marine and Yale graduate was elected to the Senate in 2022. He’s only 39-years-old.
“Trump’s numbers have been growing dramatically among young people and I think this will only help that and also help rebuild the future of the Republican party for the younger and the next generat9ion as well as the working people.”
Fleming says the assassination attempt on Trump likely did not influence his VP choice.
“Chances are the decision was made a couple of weeks ago. They had to make preparations to send a security detail out to his house that did come this morning,” Fleming said.
Political analysts say Vance’s strong showings in media appearances likely helped solidify his position as the V-P pick.
