Suspended LSU running back Trey Holly was scheduled to appear in court today related to a Union Parish shooting that happened in February. Because more evidence is expected to be provided to attorneys working on the case Holly’s lawyer Mike Small says he along with the prosecution filed a joint motion for a September 18th continuance. Small says he remains convinced of Holly’s innocence.
“I am equally convinced of his burning desire to play football for LSU. I share that desire and I’m going to do everything I can possibly do to make that possible.”
In a recent press conference, LSU football head coach Brian Kelly said he thinks the case could be resolved as early as next week. Small says Holly is not discouraged by the mid-September continuance.
“We certainly don’t view it as a negative development at all. I remain convinced of Treys innocence. I’m hopeful that the case can be disposed of.”
Holly has pleaded not guilty to a charge of illegal use of a weapon or dangerous instrumentality.
Holly was indefinitely suspended from the Tigers after he was arrested in connection with a shooting on February 9th in Union Parish. Head coach Brian Kelly has indicated Holly would be allowed back on the team if the case gets resolved.
Small says as of now the charges are still pending.
“We are in the process of obtaining all the evidence that we have to have to be thoroughly prepared to try the case if it goes to that stage.”
A jury dropped an attempted second-degree murder charge against Holly in April.
