Today is the last day for early voting in the presidential election here in Louisiana.
“As of last night, 746,000 had voted in person. Another 108,000 had voted by mail, so we’re sitting at 854,000,” John Couvillon said.
John Couvillon with JMC Analytics says while the early voting in polling places is up from four years ago, the mail-in ballots are considerably down from that time. He says he does not expect the state to reach the one-million early vote mark at the end of the day today.
“I don’t think we’ll quite hit our one million mark this time. But, still, it’s pretty robust early voting when you’re considering that one side is more interested in early voting than the other,” Couvillon said.
Couvillon says in this case, the side more interested in early voting is the Republicans, which is highly unusual.
“This is the first time in my life that I’ve ever seen Republicans outvote Democrats for nine days straight in a row. They actually have a ten-point lead as of last night, whereas four years ago, Democrats had a seven-point lead,” Couvillon said.
If you do not vote today, your last chance will be on Election Day one week from today at your assigned precinct.
