To help the crawfish industry with financial assistance after last summer’s drought severely impacted the crop, Congressman Troy Carter is holding three workshops for crawfish producers, boil houses, restaurants, grocery stores, and others who depend on crawfish.
“We’re going to bring the people that will help with the application, that will walk them through the process, that will cut through the red tape, and make these resources available to the people of Louisiana,” said Carter.
The first of three workshops in conjunction with the Small Business Administration will be at Southern University at New Orleans today. Carter said it’s not just about Louisianan’s love for crawfish, but about a vital part of the state’s economy.
“This is about businesspeople who make a living, selling, boiling, and farming crawfish. We want to make sure that we keep them healthy, in business and employed and of course continue to provide our crawfish for us,” said Carter.
On Wednesday a workshop will be held at Reserve Community College and on Thursday at the Reimagine Women’s Center in Baton Rouge.
Carter said the workshops are one-stop-shops for those in the crawfish industry who need financial support.
“We will have all of the resources of the federal government, all in one room, applications in hand to help expedite the process to assist our crawfish professionals during a time when they need it most,” said Carter.
