Secretary of State Nancy Landry is promoting Voter Registration Week this week. Joel Watson with the Secretary of State office says this there are events throughout the state this week.
“This is a week that we do events across the state. Our registrars of voters are out and about in their communities, encouraging people to register to vote but also encouraging people who are already registered to update their registration,” Watson said.
Watson says once you register to vote, you’re registered forever — except in certain conditions.
“If you receive an address confirmation card, didn’t complete it and you don’t update your address or vote within two federal elections, then you’re removed from our voter rolls. But you can re-register, of course, if you’re eligible,” Watson explained.
Watson says it is important to make sure voter information is up to date for upcoming elections — and you can do so online or on the Geaux Vote app.
“Changing the address on their registration since the last time they moved, making sure their party affiliation’s up to date in anticipation of closed party primaries next year, making sure their contact information is up to date and accurate,” Watson said.
