The acting police chief in Cheneyville, a town of less than 500 in Rapides Parish, finds himself on the other side of the law.
Charles A. Isaac, 37, is charged with molestation of a juvenile and sexual battery of a child under the age of 13.
“The State Police Special Victims (Unit) was contacted by a caregiver, someone in that child’s close vicinity, and was concerned about different things that actually brought up a red flag to that individual,” says State Police Master Trooper Casey Wallace.
State Police say Isaac was not on duty when the alleged abuse occurred.
Wallace says all defendants will be treated the same way, regardless of their occupations.
“It doesn’t matter the job titles, it doesn’t matter what they would, I guess, label as brotherhoods or trying to protect anything,” says Wallace. “When it comes down to right and wrong situations, we will try to do the very best we can for the citizens of Louisiana.”
Wallace says if Isaac is found guilty, he will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law, regardless of his role in law enforcement, let alone as a police chief.
“We don’t try to sugarcoat anything (about) what the facts are,” Wallace says. “The investigation leads where the investigations lead. And if this is something that’s illegal or something that needs to be addressed, then we are in it for the right reasons and for the justice and for the law.”
