Two men are arrested in connection with a shooting on Bourbon Street over the weekend that killed a Chicago woman in town celebrating her birthday. Chief Deputy Superintendent Hans Ganthier announced the arrests during a news conference yesterday afternoon.

“We first identified Mekhi Jarius Andry. He is identified as the initial shooter, the person who started this. The second person, Dontrell Bradley, is also in custody. He returned fire,” Ganthier explained.

20-year-old Mekhi Jarius Andry, the initial shooter, was arrested at the scene that night, while Dontrell Bradley, who returned fire, was subsequently arrested in Metairie. 33-year-old Jessica Williams was near them; she was hit by the gunfire and was killed. Williams’ parents were at the news conference, and Ganthier expressed his sorrow to them.

“I can’t say how sorry we are this happened. Especially to someone from out of town, who came in to enjoy our city and were faced with this tragic incident,” Ganthier said.

Ganthier has a stern message for anyone looking to wreak havoc in New Orleans and put the lives of residents or tourists in danger.

“I want to be clear: If you do this, and you bring violence, to not only our residents but tourists in the city, you will be apprehended, you will be caught, and we will bring you to justice,” Ganthier warned.
