Louisiana State Police and the Attorney General are addressing the investigation into the deadly crash in Lafourche Parish last December that resulted in the filing of criminal charges against former LSU football star Kyren Lacy. State Police Superintendent Colonel Robert Hodges says investigators utilized evidence in making their decision.
“Eyewitness reporting, several video evidence, as well as physical evidence on the scene that is normally done. Whether it’s measurements to determine distance between vehicles, or speeds of vehicles, and other factors that result in a crash,” Hodges explained.
Attorney General Liz Murrill says while it may be unclear whether Lacy would have been convicted beyond a reasonable doubt – and we will never know – the video that State Police released this week leaves no doubt into his role in the crash.
“There’s no dispute that there was a green Charger that was driving at a very high rate of speed, passing cars in a no passing zone at somewhere around 80 miles an hour in a 40 mile an hour zone, and that triggered the remainder of the events,” Murrill said.
Murrill says based on her findings, she has not seen any wrongdoing on State Police’s part.
“The police did their job. They investigated the case. They took the statements of multiple witnesses at the scene. I think you can see that from the video,” Murrill said.
The Lafourche Parish District Attorney’s Office did its own investigation this past spring, and it stated that the State Police’s report contained several inconsistencies.
