The college football world is waiting for an answer from Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin as LSU, Florida and others try to tempt him away from Oxford in the midst of a 10-1 campaign with the Rebels. Michael Katz of the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal says there’s a lot of confusion around Kiffin’s future.
“Depending on what you hear or when you hear it, you’re probably leaning one way, and then you hear something else five minutes later and you kind of go another direction,” Katz said.
Kiffin denied reports he was given an ultimatum by Ole Miss brass, but Katz says there is certainly mounting urgency in Oxford to get a decision before their regular season finale in the Egg Bowl on November 28th.
“I would be surprised if there wasn’t some sort of deadline or a ‘Hey, man, like we need to know because we’re going have to get going into a coaching search if this isn’t the direction that you’re going to go,"” Katz explained.
Kiffin’s ex-wife visited both Baton Rouge and Gainesville this week. Katz says Kiffin faced a similar decision almost exactly three years ago as he was courted by Auburn, and he won’t be hasty to make a decision.
“I think there’s a lot of factors involving this. It’s family. It’s your personal happiness and well-being. It’s ‘Is the grass necessarily greener?’ He’s done that before, and it’s bitten him,” Katz noted.
