LSU restarts its Corps of Cadets program for the first time since 1968. The first cadets were sworn in over the weekend in a ceremony on the Tiger Stadium field in front of more than 100,000 LSU fans. Board of Supervisors member Rico Alvendia says whereas LSU has always had the ROTC program, the restarting of the Corps of Cadets opens up military training to the general student body.

“We will now open the Corps to civilian students. Students who may not decide to go the military track or go into the military at all,” Alvendia said.

Alvendia says being in the Corps of Cadets program will give students very valuable experience.

“They can come and obtain a minor in national defense leadership and cyber security,” Alvendia explained.

Alvendia says with minor degrees in national defense or cybersecurity, graduates of the Corps of Cadets program can move on to have very successful careers.

“They have that background. They have the national defense leadership and cybersecurity, which will be offered through the Corps of Cadet Program at LSU,” Alvendia said.
