The second round of the Louisiana High School football playoffs begins tomorrow night. Today, we are looking at the Select matchups. Spencer Verrett with the LHSAA Network says the 8-9 matchup between Evangel and St. Paul’s in Division I is one of the better games.
“I think St. Paul’s is going to present a bit of a challenge for Pop Houston and the Eagles. I think they can do a lot of things on defense that can maybe be something that they haven’t seen before. And I still think they can supplement enough on offense to be able to challenge an already explosive offense,” Verrett said.
In Division III, Verrett is looking forward to the 8 vs. 9 matchup between the defending champion Catholic New Iberia Panthers and the Bunkie Panthers.
“I’m excited to see what happens when Big Red and Big Red match up. I’m sure that’s going to be a great atmosphere over there at Bunkie. Right now, I’m leaning towards picking Bunkie, because I’m a little worried about New Iberia’s health. But I think that’ll be probably the best game in this one,” Verrett said.
In Division IV, Verrett says two historically storied programs meet in Monroe as Southern Lab visits Ouachita Christian, and he says this game could go either way.
“This is a matchup that you would think is in the Dome, but it’s in the second round. And I’m excited to see what happens to this one. I think the Kittens are getting healthy at the right time. I think OCS might still be reeling a little bit from that week 10 loss to Oak Grove,” Verrett noted.
Tomorrow, we will preview some of the best non-select matchups.
