People hitting the road for the Christmas holiday road can fill their gas tanks and have money left over for some last-minute gifts. Don Redman with AAA Louisiana says gas prices are the lowest they’ve been since 2020.
“We’re currently looking at statewide average well under $2.50 a gallon. The prediction is that those prices will continue to drop, even into the new year, so we could be starting out 2026 in Louisiana looking at prices about $2.25,” Redman said.
Redman says one thing keeping prices low is OPEC not adjusting production when the U.S. increased its production of refined gasoline.
“You didn’t see the OPEC members cut back in their quota, in terms of oil production. And that certainly has created the prices to come down. Crude is selling around $58 a barrel,” Redman explained.
Redman says the holiday season is typically the time of year when gas prices are at their lowest.
