A person was killed in the shooting of a Shreveport Police officer early Sunday morning. Police responded to a call about an altercation outside a downtown bar on North Spring Street. Tim Huck is the business owner who alerted police and witnessed the event. He said four people were fighting in an alley next to the business when the officer stepped in. One of the men pulled out a weapon.

“He was grabbing his gun because he was in the fight, and maybe going towards the other people,” said Huck. “[The officer] moved the person off the top of him at just the right time or just the wrong time.”

The officer was then hit in the shoulder by the errant shot. Huck said her bulletproof vest did its job, and her injuries are non-life-threatening. He said the shooter continued firing wildly after hitting the officer.

“She was able to draw her firearm and return fire,” said Huck. “This response time was phenomenal.”

The armed subject has been pronounced dead. Huck said two of the three others involved in the fight were arrested and the officer should be commended.

“I can tell you without a doubt that the officer is going to be cleared,” said Huck. “Her actions saved lives without a doubt.”

Huck said the shooter was involved in another fight earlier that night near a separate business. State police are investigating the shooting.
