Saints head coach Kellen Moore confirmed defensive tackle Bryan Bresee will be undergoing season-ending ACL surgery. Bresee suffered the knee injury on the first day of training camp. Veteran interior defensive lineman Davon Godchaux says it was a freak accident, but he’s still determined to bring the best out of the unit.
“I expect us to have a big year, if we handle our part and everybody stays healthy. You’ve got a freak accident like Bryan Bresee, first day; man, it was like a freak accident. There was hardly even any contact. Really, it was just a pass-rush move and he felt his knee buckle. But I’m really expecting a big year, so I want to feel great about myself and I want to feel great about dominating this season,” Godchaux said.
Godchaux is entering his tenth NFL season and second in New Orleans. The former LSU tackle will lead the way in the middle of the defensive front without Bresee, but he says it’s a group effort.
“Everybody’s got to step up. Everybody. I just broke down the guys before I came in here, told them the same thing: Everybody has to do more. Me, Chuck, Vern; he got hurt one week, played one game I believe. C. Miller, when he’s ready. Everybody. Do more. And just trust yourself; it’s just football, don’t make too much of it. Yes, there’s going to be some adversity, but just trust yourself and you’ll be okay,” Godchaux explained.
Bresee was entering his fourth NFL season after being taken by New Orleans out of Clemson in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He’s under contract through 2027.
