Questions abound as LSU football begins fall practice today

LSU football begins preseason camp today – its first under new head coach Lane Kiffin. Preston Guy with TigerBait.com says there are a lot of questions surrounding Kiffin’s first LSU team, most of which deal with chemistry.

“59 new faces on the football team. That’s a LOT of new faces learning how to play with each other. If you think about it, 12 out of 13 receivers are new to the team. Your entire quarterback room, new to the team,” Guy noted.

Guy says one facet is how the offensive line is loaded with veterans, but that’s not exactly a positive with this team.

“3 out of 5 of your starters were on the roster last year, and that was the most putrid offensive line in school history. I don’t know that plugging in a first-round pick left tackle fixes all those problems,” Guy said.

That could be a liability for quarterback Sam Leavitt, who’s still recovering from a foot injury that he suffered while at Arizona State.

In all, Guy says this LSU team is a very good team – the problem is, a lot of teams on their schedule this season are also very good teams.

“You have four teams that are ranked in the top 11 of the Coaches Poll. That means, for you to finish better than 8-4, means you beat some pretty good football teams along the way if things pan out. Not to mention, Tennessee’s on your schedule,” Guy explained.

Tennessee is ranked 18th in that aforementioned Coaches Poll.
