We now know how 12-year-old Bryan Vasquez died. New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick made the announcement during a brief news conference yesterday afternoon.

“The coroner has determined that 12-year-old Brian Vasquez died from blunt force, due to an alligator, and then subsequently drowned,” Kirkpatrick said.

Kirkpatrick says she has formally requested that the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries eradicate nuisance alligators, and that work started yesterday afternoon.

“We will have hunters in that body of water eradicating these nuisance alligators. We will have an NOPD presence, just to make sure that people understood what was going on,” Kirkpatrick explained.

Bryan was a nonverbal autistic boy who disappeared from his home on August 14th, 12 days before his body was found. Kirkpatrick says the circumstances surrounding Bryan’s disappearance is ongoing.

“There is history that well preceded anything associated with Brian’s death, but it could be important. Therefore, we’re going to go with every lead that we have been made aware of,” Kirkpatrick said.
