DCFS looking for second shift CPS investigators

If you’re interested in a career investigating child abuse cases, the Department of Children and Families wants to hear from you.

DCFS needs second shift Child Protective Services investigators.

“Child maltreatment does not just happen Monday through Friday 8:00 to 4:30,” says DCFS Secretary Rebecca Harris. “We need to ensure that we have people available in the evenings, weekends and holidays to be able to respond timely.”

Harris says they’re looking to hire 53 people to work four, 10-hour shifts per week.

They’ll need to work weekends — but not every weekend.

“They’ll actually have every other weekend off — Friday, Saturday, Sunday — which is a huge bonus,” says Secretary Harris.

No college degrees or special licenses are necessary to apply.

“Previously, we wanted individuals that had degrees in social work, but no degrees required,” Harris says. “So we take experience, preferably individuals that have experience in the first response world.”

While having to work weekends on occasion can be a drag, Harris says working second shift does have its advantages, like additional pay.

“Starting salary is going to be about $20 per hour, and then we have approved a shift differential policy,” says Harris. “So individuals that work second shift will receive an additional $4 per hour worked.”

Those hired would start their new jobs as early as September 15th.

Applications are available at the Louisiana State Civil Service job site and on career networking sites like LinkedIn, Indeed and Handshake.
