Baton Rouge Police Sgt. Caleb Eisworth will be laid to rest Saturday. He is the 13th Baton Rouge Police Officer to die in the line of duty. In June, the driver of a truck allegedly intentionally hit Sgt Eisworth’s motorcycle. He died in the hospital last Sunday. Baton Rouge Police Chief, T.J. Morse his injuries were just too severe.

“He fought hard for 49 days, but unfortunately his body just was too broken and too beat up and he was not able to overcome the severe injuries from being intentionally ran over by a hateful person,” Morse said.

Sgt. Eisworth suffered multiple injuries and spent seven weeks in the hospital. Morse says there were moments of hope that he would recover.

“A week and a half ago or so, they had taken them off some of the sedation meds and he was responding a little bit. So there’s a lot of hope. You know, he was able to respond to his wife and daughter and some of the other people in the room,” Morse said.

Sgt. Eisworth was a decorated officer who served 23 years in law enforcement and received the Baton Rouge Police Department’s highest honor, the Medal of Valor when he pulled a motorist from a burning car while off duty. Morse says Eisworth performed many acts of heroism and impacted many lives.

“(Eisworth) loved hunting, loved LSU sports, made such an impact in so many people’s lives,” Morse said.

Visitation will be held at Istrouma Baptist Church Saturday beginning at 9:00 A.M., followed by his funeral at noon. Sgt. Eisworth will be laid to rest at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
