“We’re going to put a challenge out to the LSU Board of Supervisors, to find a place to put a statue of Charlie Kirk to defend the freedom of speech on college campuses,” Landry said.

Landry made that request following a Turning Point USA event on the LSU campus, which Kirk was scheduled to speak at, had it not been for his assassination back in September.

“Come on ladies and gentlemen, let’s see if we can be the first campus to do it,” Landry urged.

Landry’s request has garnered mixed reaction, with the majority of comments on his post on “X” in opposition – whether it be for Kirk’s political views or Kirk’s lack of connection to LSU or Louisiana.

The responses to the governor’s requests varied:

@JTV____ “This will mean a lot to those who honor free speech. Charlie, showed a courageous path of open dialogue for young Americans regardless of the topic, political affiliation, religion, etc.”

@tigerfightfan “Why? What happened to him was tragic, but he has no connection to our school that I am aware of. How about Burrow gets a statue first? He actually did work for our university.”

@QuinHillyer “He has nothing to do with LSU. This is absurd.”

@hellowhitty “Worried about building statues instead of things that are actually affecting the state. Seems like a waste of money when we’re in a time of fiscal uncertainty.”

@cbug1025 “how about any other person who actually did something worthy of being honored by LSU? or how about funding to fix these god-awful roads that I have to swerve while driving on to not fall into a pothole.”

@DmariHard “I’ll take a Brian Kelly statue before CK.”

@Mattie129218 “Great news @LAGovJeffLandry A great way to honor Charlie Kirk!!!
