Every parish in Louisiana will be showcased in a new travel series that debuts tonight at 8 PM on Louisiana Public Broadcasting. Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser says the LA 64 series will take viewers off the beaten path to experience local traditions and all things make each community distinctive.
“All the mom-and-pop shops, the local restaurants, the traditions, the culture. It’s really going to dig deep into everything special in each parish,” Nungesser explained.
The first episode features Vermilion Parish and Nungesser says the show has already set new records on LPB’s YouTube Channel. He says LA 64 will air new episodes over five seasons to cover all 64 parishes.
“They’re taking their time and going each parish, working with our tourism folks, local tourism folks, and making sure we highlight all those unique things. Things that I even did know about,” Nungesser said.
Nungesser says every parish has a story worth telling. He hopes LA 64 inspires both visitors and residents to take a staycation or travel across the state to experience how communities are preserving, celebrating and sharing Louisiana’s rich heritage.
“It’s being really well done, and I think we’ll really boost tourism in every town and city, highlight our main streets, and I’m just really excited about it as they roll out each parish, Nungesser said.
Mississippi Public Broadcasting, Alabama Public Television and Arkansas PBS plan to air the television series this summer.
