Construction jobs are booming in Louisiana – so much so that the Associated General Contractors of America ranks Louisiana as No. 1 in the nation in year-over-year construction job growth by percentage and No. 3 in the nation in number of new construction jobs. Reldon Owens, the CEO of AGC’s Louisiana chapter, says the construction boom is being driven by Meta and other data center projects.
“Presently, you have that one in Richland Parish. You have Amazon in Shreveport, you have Applied Digital around the Alexandria area; you have Hut 8, which is in the St. Francisville area,” Owens noted.
Owens says the construction boom is also being fueled by the industrial sector.
“You’ve got CP2, which is the second LNG facility over in Cameron Parish, and then you have Hyundai Steel and then you have some work going on in Ascension Parish,” Owens said.
AGC says every major metropolitan area in Louisiana reported growth in construction jobs, leading to about a 22% year-over-year increase statewide. Owens expects that momentum to continue.
“We’ve got great growth in the construction sector, and we think in the next 5-7 years it’s going to continue. So we’re really shining the light on choosing construction as a conscious career choice,” Owens explained.
