The Louisiana Secretary of State’s Office has released a series of videos to educate voters on the new closed party primaries. The closed primaries only apply to U.S. House, U.S. Senate, State Supreme Court, Public Service Commission and BESE races. On Talk Louisiana with Jim Engster, Secretary of State Nancy Landry says the videos are part of a robust campaign to educate voters on the new voting system for those races.

“We’re partnering with university athletic programs. We’re doing social media and internet ads, and we’re also doing a lot of in-person outreach,” Landry said.

With a 30-day pushback approved by the legislature in the recent special session, the primary election is May 16th, with the runoff June 27th. Landry says while that may seem a ways away, time is of the essence in making voters aware of the changes.

“We needed to educate voters and let them know about these changes coming, so they can be ready for them,” Landry noted.

The central theme of the videos is summed up by the acronym K.N.O.W.

K, keep your voter registration current. N, not everyone will vote on every contest. O, only certain offices are affected and W, where to find more information,” the video explained.

The videos can be found on the Louisiana Secretary of State’s YouTube page and on the GeauxVote website.
