The long-anticipated spin-off of Love The Boot is now underway as Love Our Waterways is going on throughout the entire month of September. Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser says while Love The Boot focuses on cleaning up litter on land, Love Our Waterways focuses on cleaning up litter in the state’s waterways, which is just as much an issue.
“We’re going to be giving out buckets, donated by Lowe’s and Stine Lumber, and we’re asking people to go out in your boat and clean up any litter you see,” Nungesser said.
Lieutenant Governor Nungesser says even if you don’t have a boat, you can still participate in the cleanup effort through Love Our Waterways.
“If you don’t have a boat, walk along the shoreline of a lake, a bayou, a stream or even a ditch; and let’s get all that trash that clogs our waterways and ends up in the lakes and bayous,” Nungesser suggested.
200 events are already registered; and Nungesser says if you’d like to participate, you can get information at LoveLAWaterways.org.
“You’ll get some great t-shirts and hats. Get a group, go out and clean up all the month of September; help us clean up our waterways. It’s something everybody can get involved in,” Nungesser noted.
