The LSU Presidential Search Committee holds its third meeting Thursday afternoon at 1:30 pm. Piper Hutchinson, a reporter with the Louisiana Illuminator, says with this meeting, the committee moves into the final stages of selecting the university system’s next president.

“The search committee is going to kind of narrow down the candidates into those who will be officially invited to apply for the job. And that means that their names will soon become public,” Hutchinson said.

Hutchinson says there are quite a few people who have expressed interest in becoming the new leader of the LSU system.

“At the last search committee meeting, the search consultants said that there had been about 30 people who had expressed interest, about 20 people who were qualified, and about eight or nine who were highly qualified,” Hutchinson noted.

Next Wednesday morning, the committee will conduct interviews with the candidates it invited to apply for the position and will select three finalists to recommend to the Board of Supervisors. Hutchinson says after that, a series of meetings will be held with those finalists.

“Over the next few weeks, we will have public interviews with these individuals, until they get down to just a couple of finalists for the board to vote on,” Hutchinson explained.

Hutchinson says they hope to have the new president selected by Thanksgiving and have that new president begin shortly after the first of the year.
