The Procter & Gamble Alexandria Manufacturing plant is hosting a job fair Saturday.
The P&G Alexandria WOW Community Event takes place 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. at the Randolph Riverfront Center, 707 2nd St.
“We really want to engage in the community, and we want to talk to prospective candidates to come work here,” says Kevin Hood, P&G external relations senior manager.
Prospective employees can meet the local plant team and enjoy the event with their families.
“We’re going to have some Zydeco music,” says Hood. “We’re going to have a dinosaur experience, balloon artists (and) face painters. We’re going to have some cotton candy, jambalaya, pasta, hamburgers, hot dogs. We really want the family to come out and enjoy the event.”
The P&G Alexandria plant produces laundry products distributed across the country and is seeking professionals to support the operation and maintenance of production equipment.
Hood says the plant is looking to hire 100 skilled mechanical and electrical technicians.
“That experience or skills can come through community or technical colleges,” Hood says. “It can come through certifications. It can also come through just plain old good job work experience.”
Hood says qualified candidates won’t be hired on the spot but will have an opportunity to discuss pay, benefits and responsibilities. He says the plant will be actively hiring over the next year.
“They will go online and put in an application and do an assessment,” says Hood. “Then that’ll be followed up by an interview. And then once we’ve vetted out those perfected candidates, we will be prepared to offer jobs.”
