He may be living the good life in Miami, but former LSU head football coach Ed Orgeron says he wants to return to the sidelines. Orgeron told Tiger Rag Radio that now that his sons have started their coaching careers, he’s getting the itch to coach again.

“I found myself calling too many times during the day. ‘Hey, what’s going on, man? How’s practice?’ Or I’ll be at a practice or go to a practice. So I think if the right thing comes along, which I think it will, I’ve got them settled. Now I’m ready to go back and compete again,” Orgeron said.

Orgeron was fired in 2021 and received a $17 million buyout– half of which ultimately went to his ex-wife. He says his focus since his firing has been seeing his sons start their coaching careers; and now that they’ve done that, it’s time for him to get back to work.

“I was dead set on getting my kids into coaching. LSU has paid me a lot of money and took care of me. I was able to be able to do that, and I got it done,” Orgeron said.

Orgeron says while he would ultimately like to be a head coach; with this being his fourth year away from the game, he would accept any viable coaching opportunity that comes his way, whether it be as a head coach or as an assistant coach.

“I think there will be some opportunities to be a head coach. I think there will be some opportunities to maybe go to the NFL, maybe go to a big school. I just got to weigh out what’s best for us,” Orgeron said.
