“It runs through June 19th, 5 p.m., so people will have over two weeks to go and create a profile to have their names thrown into the hat to become a potential grantee,” Temple said.
This round of funding will be for 3,000 roofs, and Temple says history has shown that the number of people registering for the lottery will exceed that number several times over.
“We had over 10,000 people apply for the last 1,000 grants we did. So we know the demand is strong for this product, and we’re going to get as many roofs on as quickly as we possibly can,” Temple noted.
Temple says this year, they’re focusing on areas within a 130-mph wind zone. Therefore, the eligible area is expanded to include Acadia, Jefferson Davis and Lafayette parishes, as well as portions of eight other parishes previously excluded from the program.
“The intent was to make sure that we’re trying to expand the program to as many potential people that are exposed to higher hurricane-force winds,” Temple explained.
The grants will be for $10,000 each, and the 3,000 people who receive those grants will be selected at random on June 22nd.
