The U.S. Small Business Administration is encouraging Louisiana residents and business owners who suffered damage or financial losses from Tropical Storm Arthur to apply for low-interest disaster loans.
SBA spokesperson Michelle Genovese says about $4 million in disaster loans have already been approved.
“Our funds not only help survivors rebuild and replace their items that have been damaged, but it also helps rebuild communities,” Genovese said.
Homeowners, renters and businesses in Avoyelles, Lafourche, Pointe Coupee, St. Landry, St. Tammany and Terrebonne parishes may qualify for assistance if they suffered storm-related damage between June 17 and June 24.
Genovese says homeowners and renters can apply for physical damage loans to help repair or replace damaged property. The loan application deadline for physical property damage is August 31, 2026.[
Interest rates on disaster loans can be as low as 2.87 percent for homeowners and renters. Payments do not begin until 12 months after the first loan disbursement.
Homeowners may qualify for up to $500,000 to repair or replace their primary residence. Collateral is not required for loans of $50,000 or less.
Small businesses and private nonprofit organizations may also qualify for Economic Injury Disaster Loans of up to $2 million if they suffered financial losses because of Tropical Storm Arthur.
The application deadline for economic injury loans is March 30, 2027.
The SBA says the loans are intended to help eligible residents and organizations recover from the storm and return to normal operations.
