Louisiana State Parks wants residents to take a hike! Assistant Secretary for Louisiana State Parks, Brandon Burris, says there will be free admission to State Parks on New Year’s Day and January 2nd so people can begin the new year with a hike to connect with the outdoors.
“It’s one of the great things about our State Parks. We’re open 365 days out of the year for all the citizens of Louisiana come enjoy. And this year, we’re starting off the year with a great way to experience our State Parks and get outside and take a great hike,” Burris said.
Burris says for a full listing of events and to plan your First Day Hike, visit the Louisiana State Parks First Day Hikes webpage.
“We have tons of hiking trails, tons of miles, extremely light. And everything from easier hikes that you have across our State Parks, to the more advanced hikes,” Burris explained.
Burris says First Day Hikes are a great way to get moving and enjoy the beautiful landscapes at State Parks.
“Bogue Chitto state parks has one of the greatest hikes in the state. You can experience Fricke’s Gorge and many, many different areas. Sam Houston Jones has great hiking trails. And in the north, everywhere from Poverty Point Reservoir State Park to Poverty Point World Heritage Site, there’s tons of trails everyone to experience,” Burris said.
