Two middle school students, who just got off a school bus, are among the eight people injured in a two-vehicle crash that occurred Thursday afternoon in Lafourche Parish. State Trooper Henry Perez says a Chevrolet Impala traveling in the wrong lane in a no-passing zone tried to slow down due to traffic congestion, but the driver lost control of the vehicle.
“When they tried to go back to the northbound lanes that’s when they struck a Honda from behind and once they struck the Honda, the Chevrolet went off the roadway and struck the two juveniles who had just gotten off a school bus,” Perez said.
Perez says eight people were sent to the hospital with serious to moderate injuries as a result of the crash.
The two pedestrian juveniles were airlifted to a hospital in New Orleans. Their injuries are considered serious, but they are in stable condition.
Two juveniles passengers in the Honda were also hurt. But their injuries are considered moderate. Two adults also sustained moderate injuries in the Honda.
The two people in the Chevy also sustained serious injuries.
Perez says a toxicology sample was collected from the the two people in Chevy Impala and they are also trying to confirm who was driving the Chevrolet at the time of the crash.
The wreck occurred on Thursday, January 29th, shortly before 4:00 PM on Talbot Avenue near Meadows Circle in Lafourche Parish.
