One of Louisiana’s biggest political networking events of the year is underway in the nation’s capital, as it’s D-C Mardi Gras time. LaPolitics.com publisher and editor Jeremy Alford says there will be a dinner dance on Friday night and a Mardi Gras ball on Saturday, but before that there’s plenty of opportunities to rub elbows.
“Just a number of different hospitality suites and gatherings, and cocktail parties that hosted everyone from parish presidents to chambers of commerce, to city governments to universities,” Alford said.
Alford says there are big issues and storylines in the backdrop of this year’s D.C. Mardi Gras.
“Got Congress debating what could be another government shutdown, there is a very contested U.S. Senate race going on and we are entering a new Congressional cycle as well,” Alford said.
Alford says with this year being an election year, the candidates running for U.S. Senate and the now-open fifth congressional district seat will use this event secure campaign donations.
“This is an event that is not only populated by elected officials, operatives, campaign consultants, and especially lobbyists, it’s also populated by these donors that these candidates need to get a hold of,” Alford said.
Qualifying for the federal elections is February 11th to the 13th.
