State and local officials will celebrate the completion of a broadband expansion project at the Vernon Parish Library this morning. ConnectLA executive director Veneeth Iyengar says the project will bring necessary infrastructure to thousands of homes and businesses.
“Connectivity is going to be critically important to the success of Louisiana’s present and future, for generations to come,” Iyengar said.
Iyengar says not only will residents enjoy faster speeds, they’ll do so at a lower price. Previously, homes paid as much as $200 a month for subpar internet connections.
“What we’re now doing is significantly reducing the cost, sometimes by 75, 80% of what a typical family would be paying, and what they’re actually getting in terms of speed and quality is significantly better than what they’ve had,” Iyengar explained.
And this won’t be the end of Louisiana’s investment in connectivity. Iyengar says there could be as many as seven more ribbon cuttings across the state before the end of the year.
“Not only are we executing on these projects from a state policy perspective, which we think is best in the class in the country, but the work is actually getting done, and it’s getting done by Louisiana companies,” Iyengar said.
The Leesville celebration begins at 10:30.
