LSU baseball freshman Mason Braun expected to contribute early

It will be difficult for a freshman to crack the starting lineup at LSU, with so many veteran position players. But if there is a guy on this LSU baseball team who can do it, it is Mason Braun. Braun can play in the outfield or at first base. He has big league power and LSU coach Jay Johnson likes his slow heartbeat in the batter’s box.

“He’s more in control of himself, which allows him to control his performance at a higher-level player that played a lot of college baseball. So that’s a good quality with just the natural hitter qualities that he has and not a surprise to me,” Johnson said.

“We were able to sneak him through the draft. I thought that would be a great thing for LSU and our team and excited to have him for three years,” Johnson noted.

No. 2 LSU opens the 2026 baseball season at home against Milwaukee on Friday, February 13th at Alex Box Stadium.
